Recently, I was sharing 31.5 Customer Retention Tips to a group of owners of small business. When it dawned on me that they simply don't have the tools - so here is the solution! But first . . .

In today's fast paced society, we often forget the niceties of life.  Like wishing people 'Happy Birthday' in a heart felt manner.  And when take this opportunity, your customer will feel valued and see they are important to you.

The key for your customer is to feel that the birthday wishes are genuine. So make sure it is a personal birthday wish, which means:

Hand write the birthday card - no pre-printed, computer generated, smarmy stuff;
Include personal things in the note to show you know who they are;
Do not add any up-sell or cross sell marketing material; and
Be genuine and sincere in your words, in other words show you care!

Birthday Card Idea

Use a postcard for the birthday card and print your labels for birthdays for the month.  Stick the labels on the right hand side and then have members of your Team sign the left hand side.

As the label is already stuck on, your Team can see who the card is going to.  If they know the member then they can write a small personalised message on the card, for example: "Not too much chocolate cake!" or "Make sure the kids look after you!"

Before you know it, you will have customers coming in or ringing your business to say thank you for their birthday card!
