Time to Speak Better!
A key way to sell yourself and your products is through presentations but many people fear public speaking more than death! To help improve your communication skills record yourself – video or audio only – and look for the following:
- Do you use certain words or phrases frequently? For example, fillers like “you know” and “like.”
- Does your voice drop off at the end of sentences?
- Are you easy to follow with your points or do you go off on tangents?
- Is your voice monotone or do you use inflection – especially when trying to emphasis points?
- What is the pitch of your voice? A soft voice could be perceived as you being less confident, so a louder and more deliberate voice will come across as more self-assured.
- How is the pace at which you talk – too fast or too slow and putting your listeners to sleep?
- What is your body language saying – are you fidgeting, clicking a pen, waving your arms around or pacing up and down.
It is important not to be critical but each one of these can either detract from or add to your presentation. But if you have a weakness in this area, then maybe you should attend Toastmasters.
Toastmasters Clubs are worldwide are the best place to improve both your communication skills and your leadership skills. Toastmasters will help you overcome any fear of public speaking while learning skills that will allow you to become more successful in whatever path in life you have chosen. So Google Toastmaster to find your nearest group.

Guerrilla Marketing Tip #26
This month our words from the guru Jay Conrad Levinson is about ‘Viral marketing.’ This is now an integral part of a campaign strategy that is used to achieve objectives. You should craft your message in a manner such that it encourages pass-along.
Producing a message with a quality offer or an incentive for pass-along is what viral marketing is all about. Merely suggesting that email recipients forward your message to others is not viral marketing. Adding a line at the bottom of your email that reads "Feel free to forward this message to a friend" is not viral marketing at its best.
Offer something worthy of sharing - a valuable discount, vital information - or offer an incentive for sharing - additional entries into a sweepstakes or an added discount or premium service - and viral marketing happens naturally... and often quite successfully.
Feel free to pass this email onto any friends you think could benefit.
Casey does it again!
Casey Conrad announces the release of her newest book, Selling Personal Training. The book helps personal trainers increase their sales by teaching them the 5 steps to selling PT: prospecting, how to establish rapport, qualifying, product presentation and how to ask for the sale.
Casey told Justin, “Although there are always exceptions to the rule, most personal trainers don’t have a natural fondness towards selling. Many think that “Sell” is a 4-letter word! But selling doesn’t have to be aggressive or distasteful. In fact, every single time a trainer meets with their client and gets them to come back for another session a “sale” has been made. Yes, one of my goals with this book was to provide good, effective sales skill training but more importantly I wanted to create a philosophy of selling that makes trainers feel good about getting prospects to become clients.”
Within the 12 chapters of the book Conrad also incorporates the theories and strategies of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP is the study of how what people say—both verbally and non-verbally—affects the communication process. Good communication is essential for a successful personal training business.
Casey said, “What makes exceptional trainers—the ability to establish rapport and effectively communicate with a wide variety of clients, not just the ones that are ‘like’ us.”
The 200-page book is available in both paperback and audio book and can be purchased for $19.95 through Communication Consultants either by phone (401-792-7009) or by Internet at www.healthclubsalestraining.com/Books.html.

The Meaning of Life
On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.'
The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?'
So God agreed.
On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.'
The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?'
And God agreed.
On the third day, God created the cow and said: 'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.'
The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?'
And God agreed again.
On the fourth day, God created man and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.'
But man said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?'
'Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.'
So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.
Life has now been explained to you.

Going Green
This month we stumbled across www.howtoadvice.com and here are some interesting ways to help improve your fuel efficiency (and we had no idea of them!):
- Purchase your petrol in the morning or evening. When the outside temperatures are low, petrol is dense.
- Keep your tyres full of air and rotate them regularly.
- Drive at a steady pace. Constantly changing speeds and sudden stopping & starting will reduce the efficiency.
- Make sure windows are up. Open windows can increase drag and therefore mileage by 10%!

You Can Put A Gym Anywhere
The Indian Fitness Industry is one of the fastest growing markets around the world today, with projected growth of 20% year on year. In this country with more than 1 Billion people, there are currently approximately 1,000 fitness clubs, spread throughout the major cities, projecting US$450 Million in total annual sales. The current strong dominance of the local players is being challenged by many of the large global chains who are looking to enter this fast changing market. But this March Golden Chariot, India’s newest 5 Star train launched it’s own health club. Within the train carriages there is a treadmill, bike and weights.
Between Now & Then
The last 4 weeks have been very exciting! I have spent them at home and watching my wife’s baby bump grow! We are due to our very first child in December, so I have been on the nursery painting and ‘child proofing’ the house.
I also sold my health club last month. This will enable me to focus 100% on improving my Round Tables and coaching and training people in better business!
I have also developed a brand new ‘Mystery Shopper Service’ for fitness businesses. This is a fully structured system for conducting incoming call mystery shopper calls. You can have any number conducted and we will even call your competitor and compare you. This is very exciting and we will start these from September. If you are interested email me now, as we will only be doing a restricted number each month to ensure quality feedback. Want to know more, click here
This month I am off on the road trip around Australia conducting the second annual FitnessBiz conference. If you haven’t yet booked, this will be an awesome learning experience, so come along.
